Jandor Firelight was the grandson of a mage, and the powers skipped a generation.  Jandor's powers manifested, and then he became prey for the Inquisition.  Not everyone in his native Empire of Vridara wanted him dead, however, and so he managed to escape to Rakore, where he realized his potential and began to master his powers.
