 +====== King Feldspar Graniteshoulders ======
 +
+Feldspar Graniteshoulders is a Warkore Clan dwarf of some 115 years of age, and king of the nation of [[gaeleth:places:Rakore]].  Feldspar assumed the mantle of king from his father Ulrich during the [[gaeleth:history:War of the Undead]], after his father Ulrich was turned by a vampire when the undead assaulted Mount Basilisk, home of the Warkore Clan.
 +
+The young king inherited a troubled land, consisting of two dwarven clans that had warred with one another for centuries, and the hostile human lands between the two clans.  Feldspar proved able to diffuse most tension with well-timed jokes and good humor, and his personal charisma won over many a local leader until all of the peninsula was under Feldspar's rule.  In addition to his words, Feldspar brought deeds and actions, using the warriors of the Warkore Clan and the priests of the Rakanus Clan skillfully, and using the humans as best he could.
 +
+The Warkore and Rakanus Clans numbered so few in the light of the massive armies of undead, and later in the light of the even more massive armies of ograns, that Feldspar could ill afford to ostracize any people.  The young king granted 'clan' status to each grouping of people that sought his protection, using the ancient dwarven codes to make humans, elves, and other races Dwarf by the olde codes.  This ensured that Rakore would become a mix of races, all on equal footing with one another before dwarven laws aided by local laws.  To help ensure racial stability, Feldspar stripped all feudal ranks of the right of execution, save for the dukes and higher.  This ensured a steady supply of prisoners to work the mines, and meant that the barristers of the court had an opportunity to ensure that all laws were applied equally across the land, and that innocent men had several opportunities to be freed.
 +
+During the [[gaeleth:history:War of the Four Winds]], King Feldspar was overwhelmed by the amount of death and destruction visited upon Rakore, greater by far than the War of the Undead.  The young king was forced to evacuate Mount Basilisk and move the court to Hallis Island, leaving behind a token force to make the ograns believe he was still at Mount Basilisk.
 +
+Feldspar's father Ulrich had been old enough to remember the tales of his father, and a time when mages had been allied with the dwarves.  There had even been a minor clan amongst the Warkore Clan that had a propensity towards magic.  For those reasons and others, Feldspar had defied the Inquisition and its mage hunters, using state funds to create a school and academy to train and grow mages for the motley nation.
 +
+When [[gaeleth:places:Kur Maeth]] entered the War of the Four Winds with intent to destroy Rakore on account of those mages, many within the court felt that Feldspar's support of the mages had ensured the doom of Rakore.  Most, however, knew how invaluable the mages were in both the War of the Undead and the War of the Four Winds.  Despite the troubles they brought, the mages had been well worth it, even in the face of an Inquisition invasion.  And then the mages saved all of Rakore, finding ancient spells and sacrificing themselves in massive bursts of fire to destroy many of the armies of the ograns, the Duke of Hallis Island leading the way.
 +
+Since the War of the Four Winds, Feldspar has been a silent, dour, brooding dwarf with little to smile about.  Rebuilding of the nation has proceeded apace, and Feldspar continues to run the nation well, but his personal charisma has diminished considerably.  His face has aged far beyond his years, and gray shows in a beard far too young.
 +
+The betrayal of the king by one of his most trusted dukes, and the use of an enchanted blade to stab the young king, have left Feldspar with a permanent limp.  Despite this, he continues to train for an hour each day, ferociously preparing himself against the next time his battle skills are needed in his own court.
 +
+On rare occasions, Feldspar might get away from his court for a week or three to practice his only remaining vice, that of stone masonry.  The king himself crafted the raw basis for the sculpture at the entrance to Mount Basilisk that gives homage to the mages and the Duke of Hallis Island that sacrificed themselves so that his nation might live.

+**Titles: ** King of Rakore, Foe of the Undead, Hammer of the Basilisk, Clan Chief of the Warkore, Clan Chief of the Graniteshoulders, Protector of Mages.
 +
+**Description:  ** Feldspar is a young mountain dwarf with light-colored skin and blonde hair and beard going to gray.  His blue eyes have a grim inner light that bores into the soul.  His crown and accoutremont are gold shaped into flames, with faceted sphene jewels that seem to glow with their own inner fire.  Since the War of the Four Winds, King Feldspar has taken to wearing black and gold.
