Klah (Klimnirah)

A jungle bean that originally grew near Kur Maeth has since been exported to many parts of Gaeleth that support its warm and wet growth requirements. Klimnirah, as the natives of the Laekenal Jungle call it, has mild stimulant properties. The beans are gathered, dried, and then ground – and steaming water is poured through the grounds, much like coffee. The color of the drink is a mild green-brown in color, prompting some to call it 'sewer water'.

Klah is available at fair prices in several nations, and is much sought-after, giving the drinker a mild boost in concentration and attention, and often helping to keep a sleepy man awake. The brew works equally well on most humanoids, including tomanths, and tends to wear off after several hours. Multiple doses can stack, though klah has an upper limit on its effectiveness.

Klah or 'sewer water' is considered far preferable to coffee, and is far more widely known. Coffee is available, but is generally considered inferior to klah in terms of stimulating effects. The taste has also been considered much better than coffee, with a cinnamon-like after-taste.

Prices are considered moderate, with a cup of it at a tavern going for perhaps a half-silver per tea-cup. A quart-sized bag of already-ground beans, good for perhaps 50 cups' worth of brews, go for 30 silver.

Klimnirah plants grow only in warm, wet conditions, with dry soils. The plants themselves are relatively low maintenance, and fairly resistant to disease – but are very susceptible to drought. For these reasons, the places than grow Klimnirah, do. Merchants are always quite happy to get ahold of local farmers that can grow an extra cash crop of klah.

Key growing areas include Kur Maeth, parts of Rakore near Teras, and some of the river valleys of Sandar and the Empire of Vridara. Klah is much more rare in the east, but no less valued.
