 +====== Droog Grimfire ======
 +
 +Character concept by James Maglothin, all rights reserved.
 +
 +**Vicar of Galgiran**
 +
 +"Only the Righteous survive."
 +
 +**Date of Birth:**  Spring of 1179 Avard.
 +
 +**Current Status:**  Summer, 1331 Avard.  During the [[gaeleth:history:War of the Four Winds]], Droog helped [[gaeleth:places:Lok Magius]] fend off attacks, and also served to make guerrilla strikes against the ograns. After the war, Droog -- thanks to his often unseen bodyguard, [[gaeleth:people:Barome Revelstoke]] -- was chosen to make occasional forays into the orc duchy to ensure their compliance with the King's Laws of [[gaeleth:places:Rakore]], and also to help catalogue their magics.
 +
 +====== Appearance ======
 +
 +Droog is a solidly built young dwarf with a bald head and piercing, intelligent black eyes. His bald head has a nasty scar that runs down the side of his head, through his hair, almost to his ear. His brown beard is cut straight across in the middle of his barrel chest, instead of in the traditional forked pattern for priests of [[gaeleth:divinities:Galgiran]]. Droog's leathers and clothing tends towards a dark reddish brown in color, though his trimmings and weapons are all in black and silver.
 +
 +His most prized possession is Rahob's spellbook, a large tome written in the draconic script and a family heirloom of incalculable value.
 +
 +====== Background ======
 +
 +Like most dwarves born out of wedlock, Droog was a bastard that was allowed to choose his own surname -- Grimfire. The identity of his parents was kept from him, and he grew up within the Rakanus Clan of dwarves as a child of the Church of Galgiran. Droog's adoptive parent was Mother Akriel Stonegrudge, and she allowed Droog to make his own choices. After flirting briefly with mining and smithing, the young dwarf entered the ranks of the Rakanus priests in 1279 Avard.
 +
 +In 1311 Avard, when the [[gaeleth:history:War of the Undead]] began, Droog began fighting on the front lines against both the ograns of the Choranil, and against the undead from within the Rakoran forests. During the nine long years of the War of the Undead, Droog saw service with his Rakanus Clan teachers, and with the Warkore Clan of dwarves as an ecclesiastical advisor.
 +
 +One of the leading clerics of the Warkore Clan was Skulldrag Orcbane. Droog was assigned to Skulldrag as an assistant, but it quickly became obvious to both of them that Droog was the more powerful cleric in Galgiran's eyes. At the Halls Battle -- in which the Death Knight Savriss led an army into the halls of the King of Rakore to destroy the fledgling kingdom -- Droog saw a touch of something within Skulldrag that scared him, and shook his faith to the core. Over the course of the next several years, as the War of the Undead drug on, Droog saw within Skulldrag a corruption of both the faith of Galgiran and Skulldrag's very soul. What bothered Droog the most, was that Galgiran continued to grant Skulldrag's prayers.
 +
 +After the Second Death of the Dark God -- the end of the War of the Undead -- Droog went on sabbatical. He questioned his faith, and questioned his role in the Church of Galgiran. As the nation of Rakore opened its doors to mages, Droog returned to the site of one of the battles of the War of the Undead, and retrieved a large tome written by the ancient mage known only as Rahob. Studying at the growing Fortress of the Mages, Lok Magius, Droog learned of the long dead Goddess of Magic -- who was not dead. Through meditation and contemplation, Droog began a new pantheon with the fortress of his own soul, dedicated to both Galgiran and [[gaeleth:divinities:Agincoth]]. Droog began to study the arcane.
 +
 +During the Ogran War, Droog was captured by the ograns and tortured. At one point, he had acid dripped onto his bald head in order to frighten the information out of his partner, a desert elf. Droog withstood the indignity and the pain, and kept the horrid looking scar that almost looks like a horrid gash in the side of his head, from where the acid ran down to his ear.
 +
 +====== Character ======
 +
 +Somewhat dour, somewhat rude, Droog's drive to investigate, to learn, and to understand both the arcane, and the divine, is a powerful driving force within his own soul. He seeks to redeem Bishop Skulldrag's soul, and feels he can only do with an arsenal of knowledge under his control. Within Droog's soul, and shining from his coal-black eyes, is a grim fire of determination -- to redeem one of Galgiran's own, and to seek a better understanding of that which was once forbidden, the arcane. He has learned, through his own torture, that the arcane is not for him, and that when called, a kind of cold, killing engine rests within his soul. Though the arcane may be beyond him, he is not without his resources.
