Tramin McNeilson

Character concept by Ed Shearer, all rights reserved.

King's Quarrel

“Awesome!”

Date of Birth: Believed to be around 1305 Avard.

Current Status: Summer, 1331 Avard. Tramin can often be found in the Blue Tyven inn in Rilan, Rakore. He keeps a close eye on information, funneling much of it into FireStorm through his old friends, P'Arkon, Hone Galadel, and Ahira Bandylegs, and his wife Rain Straith.

Appearance

When adventuring, Tramin dresses in a no-nonsense fashion that bespeaks his ability to defend himself. With a hat pulled low over his eyes, studded leather, and longsword, he gives the impression of a first-rate fighter at first glance. Tramin's quick smile, laughing green eyes, rakish blonde hair, and infectious attitude can win almost anyone's affection. When not adventuring, or when relaxing from a harrowing escape, he dresses in rich red and burgundy cotton, with his guittern in hand, and his eyes skillfully assessing his patrons.

Tramin wears a pair a light set of studded leather armor when adventuring, and carries a flaming longsword with red-gold plating in its scabbard at his hip. Additionally, he has a sling, and a pouch of twenty stones, slid into his weapon belt. His backpack carries a variety of objects, from an ancestor's spellbook, to several potions of healing. His masterwork guittern is sometimes worn on his back, but is most often in hand. Tram has taken to relearning the use of a large shield, because of the demands of battle, and carries one with him.

Background

Tramin was born to a farming community near the city-state of Visigoph, north of Kur Maeth along the mighty Dreneb River. Though his father was a hard man, he was a just man, and young 'Tram' was afforded time to learn the art of music from his grandfather, a retired mercenary and minstrel. Quickly taking to his grandfather's guittern, Tram showed a great ability with musical instruments. He also absorbed the stories his grandfather told, of heroes from the Storm Wars, of the goddess Habrem, and of the first Chosen of Habrem, a minstrel named Tomias. Tram quickly surpassed his grandfather in talent, and his ability to entertain with embellished stories and his hands on the guittern brought in additional, needed coppers for his family.

When the War of the Undead broke out, Tramin's father was forced to go, and join in the armies of Visigoph. Two years later, he returned, a harder man than before – but determined to teach his son the intricacies of the longsword. Tram's father had seen too many green recruits die on the battlefield, for lack of proper instruction. Tram's grandfather supported the teaching of the youth – until a great fever overtook him. On his deathbed, Tram's grandfather – on Tram's sixteenth birthday – bestowed upon him his wordly possessions: a masterwork guittern, a pitiful longsword, and an ancient book that had been in the family for generations. The book, was a spellbook written by Tram's ancestor Soldan Haval. For the next two years, Tram studied in secret, as well as performing his trade in Visigoph and the surrounding areas. After turning eighteen, Tramin decided his time to leave, had come. Promising to return, to see his two sisters and his family before the next winter, Tramin McNeilson headed south along the mighty Dreneb River – towards Kur Maeth. There, he learned about the nation of Rakore, where magic and mages were sheltered. Hoping to learn more about Soldan Haval's spellbook, he set out west.

Tram served Rakore well during the opening salvos of the War of the Four Winds, and throughout the war. He proved instrumental in ferreting out traitors and spies, and joined the intelligence network of Rakore. It was during that time he met and fell in love with his wife, a horse mistress from the Shaefa Plains.

Character

Tramin is quick to smile, and quick to be the diplomat. An accomplished swordsman, his confidence in his abilities lends strength to his comrades. Full of wanderlust and curiosity, he has a passion for life and living that energizes his performances. A master of the guittern, and a poet of considerable ability, Tram epitomizes the heart of the followers of Habrem, the Goddess of Music. Lately, he has even begun to use his prayers to Habrem, to call upon his Bardic gift.

Familiar

Tram's bardic gift from Habrem is the gift of companionship, in the form of a tiny monkey with golden-orange fur named Goliath. Energetic and carefree, the monkey has as much fun playing its small drums, as it does picking people's pockets for bright and shiny objects.
