Travis Durasoth

Character concept by Adam Montgomery, all rights reserved.

Prelate of Rahne

Date of Birth: Unknown, though believed to be around 1298 Avard.

Current Status: Summer, 1331 Avard. Travis continues to operate within the Empire of Vridara, simultaneously shoring up the faith in the Church of Rahne and also smuggling mages out of Vridara to Rakore via his contacts Jynx Maysolu and Simon Vadent.

Appearance

Prelate Travis appears as a mongrel warrior to most people, at first glance. His status as a paladin of Rahne is evidenced by his insignia-clasp, on the blue-trimmed, gray overcloak he wears about his armor. A half-elf with well-trimmed hair and a clean-shaven face, Travis can draw upon his innate charisma to make himself stand much taller than he actually is. Indeed, most people describe him as much differently than he actually is, because of his divine presence. Wearing good steel scale-mail over winter fur, along with well-worn horseman's boots, Travis' clothing and appearance draw the eyes, while his own green eyes assess everyone at once.

Background

Still a squire during the War of the Undead, Travis Durasoth quickly earned his paladin's clasp not long after. A quick study with a large heart, Travis quickly rose through the ranks of the church of Rahne in Rakore, showing an aptitude for strategic thinking. His greatest strength was his ability to aid anyone he was assigned to, and so as his mentor Prelate Karvol rose through the ranks, so, too, did Travis. Looking to the long-term goal of having an army of mages, when the rest of Gaeleth knows nothing of them, Rakore continually looked abroad to find mages, and ferry them back to Rakore. Additionally, elves and other magic-related races took a beating during the Inquisition.

Then a Defender of Rahne, Travis seemed ideal for a mission to Vridara. The Empire of Vridara had a long-standing history of repression of elves, as well as strong ties to the Inquisition. Sending in the half-elven Travis, and promoting him to Prelate, would aid the church of Rahne in Rakore by finding mages and exporting them to Rakore. Armed with a list of names from Mistriss Brin Vridara herself, Travis set out with his faithful steed, Palin.

After several months in Vridara, he was able to find the Moon Clan of elves, just south of Lamental, and near the Molten Mountains. Unfortunately, the Vridaran Empire also discovered the clan, and took possession of the clan – turning them over to the Inquisition. Travis had to travel to the Vridaran capital of Brevit, and began hiring and recruiting allies in and near that city for a daring rescue. Working quickly and against all time, the prelate wound up forcing the hand of the Ten Churches of Rahne and the Kurangier of Yatindar. With a church-war blasting through the city between the priests of Rahne and the priests of Yatindar, Travis and his band made use of the chaos to escape down the Roger River aboard several freight barges.

From that point on, the mages of the Moon Clan were Travis' to use – and the entire clan of two-hundred elves (including twenty-six wizards) defected to Rakore.

In the city of Svantith, along the Sea of Kiriath, Travis let loose a high-flying divine signal that climbed into the heavens. Many miles away, hiding in the continual fog of the Sea of Kiriath, were two Rakoran galleons. Answering the call, they poured into Svantith, overwhelming the Imperial Guard and the local law – and aiding the elves in their escape. Flying no colors, and leaving no one behind, there was no chance of an international incident – and the two galleons promptly began their return voyage to Rakore.

Character

Travis has seen the crusaders of Kur Maeth first-hand. He feels that the traditional paladin of the Inquisition is little more than a blind man, adhering more to the tenants of the law, than to the tenants of the faith. Armed with his own code of faith that supersedes any petty national laws, Travis Durasoth seeks to promote the church of Rahne, and the Rakoran way of life, because he believes in them. A smooth talker, and an able diplomat, Travis prefers to talk and soothe his way through difficulties, if he can. But his fearsome battle axe is well-notched, and he makes it quite clear that if negotiations fail, violence may be necessary.

Steed

Palin is a light warhorse with a well-moderated bloodlust, for such an animal. After reporting to the main temple of Rahne in Rakore – known as the Wolves' Den – Travis offered prayers to Rahne asking for divine assistance in his work. Over the course of the next several weeks, Palin began to show remarkable intelligence and understanding. When finally the horse's eyes turned a dull shade of blue-gray, Travis realized that Rahne had given him the divine assistance he requested…
