The Stormy Maiden was built out of Thayer's Rock and Gideon Enterprises in 1323 Avard, and she flies the flag of Al Fahim. She's been under her first captain since her launching, and has served primarily as a merchant ship and smuggler. She has capsized twice and been uprighted with little trouble each time.

Crew

All of the crew of the Stormy Maiden are tight-lipped individuals, stoic in the face of danger, and the envy of all other merchant ship captains – because they're also trained to repel boarders and make considerable repairs. Almost every crewman can act as carpenter, tailor, and shipwright if the situation calls for it.

Captain Karazos: He's an Al Fahiman man with a strong black beard and hair just beginning to gray from years at sea. According to his logs and the harbor masters, Karazos has made fair profits carrying rare and exotic goods that were neither illegal nor contraband. How he is able to line up such deals is a secret that many a ship's captain and merchantman would like to know.

First Mate Hagin Silverbeard: He's a dwarf called Hagin Silverbeard, heavily tattooed from head to toe and as mean a mate as any. He carried a heavy warhammer in his belt, and a crossbow slung over his back. With the crossbow, he would often fire blunt-tipped rib-breaking slow-moving quarrels at members of the crew that moved too slow. The captain was the kind leader, and the first mate was the evil that none dared cross.

Navigator Irettan: As rough and gruff as Hagin is, the ship's navigator istruly the most feared member of the crew. She is a tall, regal woman, with skin the color of new-fallen snow and hair the color of raven's feathers. She is as cold as the harshest of winter nights – and a frost witch, as well. Unlike many other mages, she has the gift of being invisible to the powers of the Seekers. She has also used her gift to help enchant the smuggling compartments aboard the Stormy Maiden so that they hide arcane signatures.

Design

The ship carries a 16ft tender capable of carrying six tonnes of cargo. The tender is usually stored upon the deck above the cargo hold, and must be moved out of place to allow cargo in or out.

The Stormy Maiden has six compartments from fore to aft:

forepeak - bosun's equipment and stores, anchor chains, et cetera.

petty officer's mess - sleeping space for four officers.

seaman's mess - sleeping space for the crew and the location of the galley.

cargo - up to 25 tonnes.

wardroom - sleeping space for six officers, including the captain.

captain's mess - a subdivision of the wardroom.

afterpeak - mooring line, fender storage and gear.
