After a blessed week of book reading and simple martial training, Voonik and Rah are informed that they are behind their fighting schedule in the training pit. Studying and simple martial training are no substitute to actual pit fighting. Voonik and Rah are led to a new section of the arena, and they are outfitted with new weaponry and armor due to their rank. They enter the arena. And once again the stands are empty, save for 3 Eyes monitoring all arena fights from his observatory room. Across the arena, Voonik and Rah see a rather large zombie chained to a marbled wall. The chain breaks from an unknown source, and the zombie immediately seeks out the PCs as a food source for its undead energies. Voonik charges the beast while Rah quickly maneuvers behind the creatures exposed flank. Together, they drop the monster, but not before the monster is able to chew a chunk out of Vooniks shoulder and armor. While they wait out the few seconds before the next round, Voonik is encompassed within a blue and white light. His armor does not repair, but his wound heals shut, and the scar left behind shrinks until it vanishes. Before they can ponder what just happened to Vooniks wound, they see three opposing pit fighters enter the arena. Without hesitation and before anyone could act, Rah moves towards the least armored and closest opponent, a female dwarf dressed in priestly robes. Before the priest could react, Rah pushes his short sword deep within the dwarfs’ chest and through her spine, dropping her as she slides off his blade. Voonik engages Tey’yuo, a human fighter. While the exchange blows Rah puts his back up against a lone arena wall and surveys they area. Zefer, a spindly human rogue, darts from around the arena wall and attempts to slide his dagger into Rahs spine, but, Rah is quick and dodges the deadly sneak attack. Voonik drops Tey’yuo as Zefer leaves combat with Rah with a quick tumble around the arena wall corner. Rah begins to unfasten a crossbow from the fallen Tey’Yuos belt as a dagger sails past his head from across the arena. Both Voonik and Rah look, and they see Zefer setting up to toss another dagger. Voonik is very pissed and charges across the arena with unnatural speed and runs his battle axe through Zefers mid section. Zefer drops, lifeless, to the ground, spewing crimson across the sanded marble floor. As both of the PCs gather at the dead Tey’Yuos body, a hairless purple monkey appears from across the arena. Rah takes the initiative and darts across the arena, and to his dismay, he spots a second hairless purple monkey from around an arena wall. Rah presses up against a wall. Voonik and a purple monkey lock in combat, and Voonik is surprised to see the purple monkey pull a small axe from behind its back. Rah leaps at the second purple monkey, and drops the creature with his short sword through its now pale face. As Voonik misses a few times trying to add more power to his attack, Rah scuttles over to aid Voonik, only to see Voonik drop to the ground as the creature rips Vooniks face off. With a mouth filled with Vooniks face, the monster charges rah, and quickly rips into Rahs face also. Rah drops to the ground, faceless also… Note: Exp was not awarded for the surviving Grimlock. 2nd of Trasad, 1329 After a few days of recovery, Voonik and Rah slowly, and painfully, awake. Standing at their recovery beds is Torge, who seems pleased to inform the lucky duo that 3 Eyes ordered his gaurds to intervene and kill the lone Grimlock before it could have killed them. Apparently, according to what Torge has heard, 3 Eyes took a liking to Vooniks bravado in the pits, and decided to give them both a second chance. Voonik and Rah are brought back to their rooms and they spend the rest of that day resting and softly plotting about their future plans in The Boors. 3rd of Trasad, 1329 During the warm afternoon in The Borrs Voonik and Rah are alerted by sounds of yelling in their hallway. With a slight push, their door swings open, surprisingly, and a melee of initiate pit fighters and guards spill forth just within their arms length. Rah immediately runs to aid a guard while Voonik weighs his options; should I fight to help the very people who have imprisoned me, or should I help Rah who has now put himself in danger? After a few precious seconds of thought and, after seeing Rah get punched a few times, Voonik decides to aid the Rah and the guards. The guard that Rah is aiding doesn’t know what to make of the rogue at first, thinking that Rah must be in the riot himself. After bull rushing an initiate, which in turns gives breathing room for the guard, Rah finally earned the guards trust, and in doing so gets a dagger from the guard’s belt tossed to him. Rah catches the dagger and proceeds to make quick work out of the pit fighters. Voonik rushes to the stair well linking their third floor and the second floor, and wails into a pit fighter, sending him flailing down the steps. At the bottom of the marbled steps the pit fighter’s body crumples into a bloody pile. Blow after blow, kick by kick, the fight ends with only renegade initiate pit fighters laying about the floor. Voonik and Rah are stand side by side with the two guards they chose to help. One of the guards pats Rah on the back, then gestures Rah with his gloved hand. Rah lets out a ‘oh’ and retrieves the guard’s dagger from his tunic, and passed the dagger, handle first, back to the guard. The sweaty, panting guard cracks a small smile. Note: +400 exp was awarded to both Voonik and Rah for aiding the guards and winning 3 Eye’s favor. |
