Terror A rogue sect of the Church of Lul has acquired a talisman of the sphere. With it, they have the spheres of anihilation from the Cache Vault of Elinthar on Chirin Isle*. Using portable holes confiscated from one of the Inquisition vaults, they have tested their dread combination on the Rakoran-sponsored city of Tulish, on the southern portion of the Gulf of Teras (1st of Sad, 1328 Avard). Tulish is no more. The blast released 10d10+100 points of fire damage, 5d10+50 points of sonic damage, 10d6+50 points of debris damage, and 10d10+100 points of energy damage on everything within a twelve-mile radius (damage range of 335-610). The rest of the Church of Lul is on a hunt for the rogues, testing the Quitzara against themselves. Kur Maeth has been placed on alert, though they fear not Davin's Plague -- thanks to the raw power of the new Holy City of the west. The alert will withdraw the fifty or so heavy triremes that were sent to Rakore to aid in the plague. The withdrawal of Kur Maen aid in the face of the plague will give the ograns the best opportunity they've ever had to invade Rakore.
*The spheres of anihilation from the Cache Vaults were created by Vyrboth Liss, ArchMage of Gaeleth during the Storm Wars. His spheres of anihilation are not spherical pieces of the Void. They are something much worse. They are singularities -- tiny black holes -- with event horizons approximately twelve inches across. The darkness appears to be a bit of blackness the size of a marble, but surrounding this is an area of increasing light distortion that sucks in anything it touches -- ripping it off and breaking it down to sub-atomic particles. Characters touching one loose only those portions of their anatomy in contact with the event horizon. Security will tighten for the Kur Maens -- immensely so. The Straights of Sloph will be heavily guarded, as well as the lands around Kur Maeth itself. Strangers and travellers that are not paladins or clerics (ironically) will be questioned intensely. Because of the attack on Rakore from both ograns and this dread weapon, the King of Rakore will quickly dispatch Firestorm (through Prat and Rial) to find the next target and protect it. If possible, the king wants this dread weapon under control, and he may have it. Rial and Prat, together, will be able to collect many of the remaining spheres of anhilation after Prat calls in Delbin from his planeswalking. Prat, Jynx, and Delbin will find rogue Quitzara, and barely escape with their lives -- but the talisman of the sphere intact. This will add a powerful new weapon to Rakore's arsenal (mid-Trilan, 1329 Avard). The spheres of anhilation will be safe-guarded on Hallis Island, at a recently constructed monastery of Arpelos. The dragon Artanus, mount of the Chosen of Arpelos, will carve out of the easternmost mountain (Mount Larsen) a repository, tunnels, monastery, and more. The monastery will be partially supported by Prat, and the mages of Firestorm. Dwarves from Lok Giran will finalize the monastery, probably by mid 1329.
Logistics This gives the party ample time to reach Wuron S'fa from their present position in the region of the Stonehelm Clan, for the Black Holly II can make nearly 300 miles per day with her hydrofoils, and the entire journey should take no longer than a month. No resupply is expected, if rations are kept tight, and all the cargo space is converted to provisions, so the trip may take even less. Once in Wuron S'fa, they hope to attent the marriage of Jena and Gunju, and await the birth of the child. They will be interrupted, however, by encroaching war with Vridara and the Toomaran Tribes (see national references, as well as Princess Sword entry). The dragons -- knowing about the prophecy, and wanting as many non-dragons out of Wuron S'fa as possible -- will urge the party to leave. They have nowhere else to go, save Hallis Island: Prat will make a visit near the time of the wedding, and bring some small gifts for the bride and groom.
The Wedding Rings of Jena and Gunju: Each ring is crafted in platinum, with a single, tiny blue diamond inset in it with a beveled cut -- and long strands of black and platinum blonde hair inlaid along the inside. The rings make their wearers invisible to and undetectable by the undead. The undead are allowed a saving throw (Willpower, DC 21) to detect the bearers of the ring. Furthermore, undead of up to 3HD approaching within 10ft of the rings must make a saving throw (Fortitude, DC 20) or be subject to disintegration. Prerequisites: Arcane Caster Level 13, Forge Ring, nondetection, limited wish, disintegrate, Market Value of 38,250gp. In addition to Prat's wedding gift, the dragons will bestow several items to the bride and groom -- items from their hoards that they feel appropriate. To the great wyrms, this marriage signifies hope -- the union of a paladin and a foreign-born warrior, both willing to fight and defend the dragons and their causes.
Jena's Chest: cloak of charisma +2, masterwork flute of Amaran ivory, masterwork holy symbol of Yatindar in platinum, and a keen longsword +1 known as Brivanus (odd blue tint to it, with images of armed archons doing battle along its blade).
Gunju's Chest: bracers of armor +2, dai tsuchi +1, partial armor of light fortification +1, 4 potions of cure moderate wounds, and a masterwork wakazashi from the Seshumo clan (circa 634 Avard). While Jena comes to term, and then delivers her child on Hallis Island, Prat will undertake to defend and protect the party against all who would hunt them. To those ends, he will journey to Mount Kilreptus, and secure the treasures guarded by Vyis Yar, the Life Bane. Once those treasures are secure -- and he has access to the spellbooks and equipment of the archlich Kilreptus (long since destroyed), Prat hopes to have at his disposal the wherewithal to keep the undead away from Gridolin for good. If nothing else, the adventure could prove quite profitable. |
