Thanks to fine dwarven craftsmanship, one of the favored weapons of assassins and killers for millennia has been made available in a ring.
The garrote ring is made from a very finely-wrought steel wire, braided for strength, and wound about a well-crafted spring that wraps round and round an open core. The ring is large, having to maked room for spring and wire inside of its casing. The ring has an outside hook attached to the inside steel wire, and is sometimes camouflaged either with other faux hooks or a fold or a gem setting. Another ring is required to complete a 'set' for the garrote. The other ring in the set can be any ring, and may not necessarily be from a 'set' per se (i.e. it may not match). The ring just has to be narrow enough or have a portion enough to catch the hook from the actual garrote, and yet wide enough not to rip the users' finger off or cut it off when appropriate force is applied.
d20 System: Use of a garrote ring requires a successful Grapple check against an opponent when he is caught flat-footed. Each successive round the Grapple check succeeds, it automatically deals damage, and also restricts a victim's breathing (where applicable). Price below is for the one garrote ring itself; the other member of the set can have variable costs.
