Within a pouch at his belt, he carries a ring of chameleon power and a potion of haste. In a scrollcase that he often has slung over one shoulder, he keeps several scrolls of dimension door, summon monster IV, and sleep.

Appearance: Herod is a lean, attractive man of moderate height, with flaming red hair tied back in a silver clasp. He has dark eyes that seem to sweep everywhere at once, ranging in color from the dark gray of a thunderstorm, to the neon blue of a brilliant sky. Duke Notimeh wears red silks and brilliantly tooled leathers, worn in the practical manner of the dwarves -- tunic, breeches, and hiking boots. At his side, he wears a shortsword of blackest night, and around his neck, he wears a matching choker of considerable width. His neck and fingers are adorned with brilliant rubies and gold, and he wears several golden hoops in his ears. His bearing and walk mark him as a man of noble birth, used to command, and yet willing to listen, and offer encouragement.

Background: Herod Notimeh was born to slaves of Supreme Ruler Itzak of the Ogre Nations. Recognizing the potential of the child early on, Itzak had several of his ogremai begin carefully training the human in the arts of war, spycraft, and diplomacy. Trained by his inhuman masters, Herod became very good at what he did, or he suffered horribly at the hands of his ogremai masters. Itzak himself trained the young human in the arts of subversion, guerilla warfare, and murder. Herod's own parents served as object lessons in dissection, as a breaking process that helped Itzak remold the man into a souless creature that was neither good nor evil.

For Itzak knew that evil would trigger the many defensive runes in the city of Karmen, where he hoped to sent Herod.

After the War of the Undead, however, Itzak realized the strength of Rakore, and insinuated Herod into the Rakoran nobility. Using Ogran-cut rubies from before the First Crusades, Itzak helped fund the then Baron Notimeh with his basic starts. Herod himself rose quickly through the ranks, achieving Dukedom in a matter of years without the aid of Itzak. Backed by a small army of his own ducal design, Herod has carved out Lok Korthair at Tikira, where one of his barons serves as ruler and magistrate of the city.

Outwardly posing as a staunch defender of Rakoran ingenuity and courage, Herod inwardly thwarts King Graniteshoulders and all Rakore every chance he gets.

Role-playing notes: Herod is one of the smoothest operatives alive. As quick on his feet as he is with his wit, he adjusts his attitude and bearing to match whomever he deals with -- without appearing greasy or brown-nosing. Well-versed, quite intelligent, and well-acquainted with Rakore, Duke Notimeh works through webs of deceipt, forgery, and lies within lies. A careful study, Herod does many good deeds, such as gifts of charity, understudies of great thinkers and mages, and the like -- but his funds go into things that enhance the Ogre Nations, through his spycraft. If push comes to shove, Herod is a lethal killer, capable of manipulating the scene of a crime through magic and more. Well-versed in prayer-casting and arcane magic, Herod can be a formidable opponent, always working through underlings that often have no idea why they do what they do. Herod's most powerful weapon is the black choker he wears about his neck. Capable of manipulating Herod's voice when he chooses, the amulet uses his own voice to cast emotion in conjunction with his bardic vocal abilities. Herod's allies are fiercely loyal to him, and not even the members of the high court suspect his careful insinuation of evil's work into their ranks.
