A prior is a priest confirmed by his church to wander the land, spreading the faith. Priors are promoted from the under-priests that often serve in a temple as support for a vicar. Before a prior can become a vicar (and hold a temple in his own right), he must often undergo a walk-about in the wilds, bringing the word of his god to others and performing acts beneficial to his church. It is during the priory that most priests choose a particular subsection of specialty within their faith, focusing on various aspects of their deities and exemplifying and expounding upon those aspects. Many of the more famous priests in history have been wandering priors. Many of the more infamous priests in history have been wandering priors, as well.
