A vicar is one of the ecclesiastic ranks of the churches of Gaeleth. It is bestowed upon a priest that has an established temple and well-defined parish, with perhaps more than one deacon to preach at his temple. From the temple, a vicar may allow a prospective priest to become an accolyte and undergo the initial trainings of the priesthood. The supervisor of a vicar, within the church, is often a bishop, a position to which an influential, powerful, or particularly wise vicar may aspire. Most priests that the layman encounters are vicars, and many vicars choose to remain loyal servants to their parishioners until death, and sometimes even beyond.
