Recap
The morning of the 15th of Trival, 1329 Avard, The Eastern Trade Road, Kalla

Our heroes set out again on the road to adventure with two new companions, the half-orc Thrug and the human, Caleb. The party felt relief to be out of the streets of Duckoron and had few plans to return any time soon. All too soon the party was reminded of the dangers of the road. Another group of Gnolls with a hyena assaulted the party on the first day and was once again handily defeated.

They had a peaceful second day of travel, but on the third found them selves hunted by four hungry dire lions. This fight was fierce and bloody. The lions dropped both rogue and the barbarian about three times. Horus was kept busy healing wounded party members and sent forth a magical spear to wreck havoc among the big cats. Caleb displayed a talent that was his most guarded secret. He was a mage in a land and a time when such men were hunted and killed in accordance to a Prophecy handed down by all the Gods of Galeth. He laid into one of the large cats with globes of acid and streams of cold. Soon all the lions lay dead, with all the heroes alive if not whole with none but Gemini wiser to what Caleb truly was.

A ragged and worn party of six headed to the nearest inn and stayed there two nights to heal all their wounds. They enjoyed having time to themselves to heal up before traveling on. Some took this extra time to drink and Thrug was laid out on his back after only two glasses of Rotgut. Gemini exhibited his skills and stealth and nibble fingers and tied everyone’s bootlaces together.

The next two days of travel were uneventful and had Gemini skipping along through the tall grass of the plain. His skipping came to an abrupt end when the party was attacked by a pack of were-rats and dire rats. The fight was quick and bloody with the rodents lying dead in the tall grass, but Thrug suffered a bite from one of the were-rats.

Once again the party rested two days at the nearest inn to heal up. Thrug seemed to have suffered nothing serious from his bite and the matter dropped from all their minds. Back on the road the party was approaching the next village when they came across a pair of statues lining the roadway. None of the four that remembered any statues lining the road, but before they could warn the others; the gargoyles attacked.

Made of stone and magically imbued with life, Gargoyles are tough foes. The party was hard pressed to damage the creatures and though Horus had cast magical weapon upon his morning star, he was unable to bring it to bear as he worked to heal the party and keep them fighting.

Jacob must have a hidden gift of barbarian rage for as his frustration mounted at not damaging the monsters his attacks got fiercer. They continued to build until he unleashed a devastating blow that turned one into gravel in one hit. The second fell to the combined might of the rest of the party.

The end of the 24th of Trivor found the party at the last inn before the Havens began, resting after a challenging encounter.

So ends the 24th of Trivor, 1329 Avard.

XP AWARDED:
240 for four Dire Lions, 317 for five Were-rats in Hybrid form and 127 for eight Fiendish Dire Rats, and 450 for two Gargoyles.

TREASURE:
The party found only 15 sp and a small steel mirror on the Were-rats.

DM NOTES:
This was an interesting night. It had been a while since the guys had been challenged on the field of battle. The guys ate it up with glee. No one died, although it was close with the lions. I believe I read the Encounter Generator wrong, and saw it quickly in the game. The Dire Lions were all reduced by 20 HP from the 60HP in the Monster Manual. *shrugs* They lived and I learned.
