Recap
The morning of the 25th of Trival, 1329 Avard, The Eastern Trade Road, Kalla The party did not linger at the last inn for long, since their wounds suffered at the claws of the Gargoyle were not severe. Two days of peaceful travel followed as the warm weather continued to bless the company. Soon it was broken in two exciting ways. Toward late afternoon the party could not help but notice seven large figures huddled around in a group. A pity the heroes were unable to stay hidden. Seven Ogres turned their attention from the conversation they were having to attack the party. Five charged forward aggressively while two more hung back. The party hung back to ready themselves as the brutes lumbered in like an unstoppable wave to the shore. Once ready, Thrug, Jacob and Kai moved out to meet them. Gemini launched arrows from on far while Horus directed his magical spear to attack any that lagged behind. Caleb used his crossbow until such time as his spells would be needed. The party met the first five Ogres before they could throw their javelins, but their great clubs proved deadly. Kai fell to the ground dead after two hard hits from the large clubs. Thrug fell once, but was raised back up to fight by Horus. He and Jacob waded in and defeated the five quickly enough. Caleb unleashed a fierce stream of fire that went a long way to defeating one Ogre. Only two remained. Both Horus and the Ogre went into a rage, but Thrug and his friends proved to be the stronger. The last Ogre disappeared into thin air quickly enough after its others companions were slain. Quickly, wounds were healed and booty was gathered from all the defeated. The Ogre Barbarian’s ring, armor and weapon turned out to be magical in nature. The two former items shrunk in size as they were removed from his body. With this new treasure in tow and Kai’s dead body wrapped up in his bedroll, the party set out to the Haven to rest. But the night was not yet finished. At the Haven luck seemed to be with the party. An aged human man watched the grieving adventurers enter with their sad burden. He went out and to ask what had happened. Horus and he conversed and the loss of Kai was discussed. The aged human told Horus he was a cleric of Whalin and had the power to resurrect their departed friend, but at a price. The two clerics haggled over the price agreeing that they would give up an idol and fire opal pendant to the temple of Whalin once they returned to Duckoron later and agreed to escort his nephew to a monastery outside the village of Evergreen. Accepting this charge meant they had to turn around and travel in the opposite direction of the ruins they had been heading for, but all agreed their monk friend was worth it. Should they fail in this charge, the cleric warned them, Kai would die once again and Horus would be punished as well. Once all was in order and Kai was once more among the living, the cleric introduced his nephew, Sven. Meanwhile, Thrug had gone outside to use the outhouse, but was struck down instead. During the time of the Darkness when Galeth’s bulk blocked all the light of Marlith, were-creatures make their changes. So too did Thrug since he was now one of them. He changed into a dire rat and skittered off to hide. A friendly man also staying at the Haven stumbled upon Thrug’s belongings and brought them inside to seek out the owner. Worried, Jacob and Caleb ventured out looking for him. They quickly discovered the large rat hiding behind the outhouse. Cabel poked his staff at the creature to scare it away. The rat attacked in retaliation with a vicious bite, but was chassed off after a hard whack from Jacob. It went and hid in the hay of the stable and the two returned to the Haven with out Thrug. Morning of the 28th brought a reluctant Sven and a naked Thrug. The half-orc had no memory of the night and Sven had no choice but to follow along with Kai as his close companion. The evening found the friends at the inn they had just left the day before. Thrug once again wandered outside and once again was changed into a dire rat. This time the confused rat hid well so all that was found once again was his discarded gear. Gemini was in a particular mood and stole a long sword from a fighter having drinks with his friends. The morning came and with it a naked Thrug. Missing was one young man. Sven had left during the night with no one noticing. The party quickly prepared to leave, but were stopped by a fighter blocking the door, searching all for his missing sword. The party passed through one by one with only Gemini and Thrug left. Gemini tried sneaking out, but was stopped one of the fighter’s friends. He chose then to seek out a back door and hurried out. The sword was found in Thrug’s bag where Gemini had hidden it, but he was allowed to leave unmolested since all knew he had disappeared early in the night before the sword was stolen and had been found naked with first light. Hurrying out, the party searched for sign of Sven but found none. Caleb’s familiar, a small brown hawk had spotted a lone traveler heading down the trade road and Kai and Thrug ran to catch him. Kai slightly recognized the man as Sven when he first came upon the traveler, but he stated he was not Sven and the monk believed him. Just in case he had Thrug sit on the man until the others came. Caleb too thought he could see the young man underneath a disguise, but was also swayed by his words that he was not Sven. So the morning of the 1st of Cal finds the party in a bit of a quandary.
So begins the 1st of Cal, 1329 Avard.
