Current Status: Summer, 1331 Avard. During the War of the Undead, Caloom's body was one of millions that were reanimated. The mummified corpse had been covered over by desert sand and saved from the worst of the predators, so that when it was brought back to a horrid semblance of life, it was more or less intact. The shambling, undead skeleton was one of many that attacked Kashin during the War of the Undead, and his corpse was burned to ensure it would never again be reanimated. Caloom's corpse was responsible for the death of two farmers – a mother and her daughter – on the outskirts of Kashin. In life, Caloom had been responsible for the deaths of dozens of victims.
Caloom most often appeared as a traveling monk or priest of Whalin. Well-versed in the arts of healing and religion, this artful thief varied his appearance considerably from town to town and village to village, but always he looked and acted the part of a devoted follower of Whalin. A man of moderate height and build, he could assume the appearance of nearly anyone, for he had the talent to change himself, and the plain face that was often forgotten – unless he chose otherwise.
Though most comfortable as a traveling monk or priest of Whalin, Caloom carried within his traveling satchel disguises and holy symbols for a host of deities, so that he could pass himself off as an accolyte wherever he went. He also kept at least six daggers hidden about his body, for those awkward times when he was discovered. Secreted about his disguise were the lock picks of his trade that allowed him to steal whatever he could.
No one is exactly sure just where he came from, or how he made it to Loregard as it was being built. He acted as a minor accolyte within the ranks of the growing, walled city in far-eastern Rakore, until Dwarfendale and Malkir arrived. Hoping to aid them, and their friend Rottgutt Stoneballs, Caloom went east into the Choranil Desert as a healer and priest. The elite heads of Firestorm hoped to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the orcs within the vast desert, and the aid of an additional healer to Dwarfendale was thought to be wise. Caloom, on the other part, saw the opportunity to filch magical items from the most powerful men he had ever met. Late one night, after quietly and stealthily stealing their equipment, he tried to escape into the desert. He made a mistake in not cutting Malkir's bowstrings, however, and the desert elf ran him down all night, until he could put a number of arrows in the thief's back for his duplicity. Caloom was left in the desert, and not even Dwarfendale could pity his soul enough to bury him.
Caloom most often worked as a free-lancer, stealing whatever he could, and selling it on the black market. He didn't particularly care for the quibblings of good or evil – he felt that he would be in business no matter who was running things. Equally at home in holy and lawful cities of the east, and in the scummy dives of the west, Caloom knew fences and black market operatives almost everywhere he went. He hoped ultimately to join one of the larger thieves' guilds, and begin a life of burglary into the more massive and well-protected churches. His greed knew no bounds, and he saw the world as a follower of Samis.
