Background

Before the Storm Wars, the city of Yasira was a prosperous trading center that sat at the conjunction of two large rivers, one of which was fed by the mountains, and the other of which was fed by the forests. The people of Yasira were led by druid-mages with the power to bring rains for the crops, heal sick animals, and bring aspects of the feywild into the world. Unicorns, gryphons, treants, and other denizens of the feywild lived alongside elves and humans in Yasira – until the Storm Wars. The druid-mages were attacked by minions of the Dark God, and the peoples of Yasira abandoned the city as it was at first defended by and then attacked by warforged golems crafted by the druid-mages desperate to end the war.

In the end, the only people left in Yasira were the smallest ones – the overlook faeries that could often disappear at a moment's notice. They maintained the groves of the region as best they could, but their diminutive size and numbers meant that the wilds eventually took over the town – save the cursed temple. After the Inquisition arrived, the Temple of Agincoth, Goddess of Knowledge, Patroness of Magic, was defiled and cursed. Agincoth's name and images were struck from the temple's walls and pillars. The Inquisition was unable to eradicate the magic of the temple, so they defiled it, sewing into its magical nature a curse: any arcane magics cast within its walls or used to scry upon it would result in terrible arcane consequences.

The faeries remained. One among them was always assigned to stand watch over the temple, to prevent its curse from being visited upon the good, and to let its curse take those who intended evil. Over the years, necromancers and others of ill repute died by their own magics, and blood bathed the floor of the temple regularly.

In 1332 Avard, bandits began using the ruins of the temple for their own purposes. Being without magic, they never incurred the temple's wrath. The faeries left the bandits alone, as the bandits were completely unaware of their presence, and so left them alone, too. The faerie assigned to guard the temple was Lily, who watched, and learned, and listened. She learned the Common Tongue. She learned of a monastery not too far away, that housed tomes of ancient magic and wonder. She learned of fighting and the world outside the ruins of Yasira. And she began to wonder…

Character

Lily is a wild child, focused intently on a task one moment, and then easily distracted by shinies a moment later.
